Sevim Surucu is an Ebru (Turkish Paper Marbling) Artist living in Chicago, IL. She was born in Izmit, Turkey. She graduated from Istanbul University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Art degree in Landscape Architecture. After working as a landscape architect for a while in Turkey, she came to United States. She wanted to combine her design skills that she learned in her undergraduate years with her love of nature, thus she started learning Ebru, the art of paper marbling.

Paper marbling is a method of aqueous surface design, which can produce patterns similar to marble or other stone, hence the name. The patterns are the result of color floated on either plain water or a viscous solution known as size, and then carefully transferred to a sheet of paper. It is often employed as a writing surface for calligraphy, and especially book covers and endpapers in bookbinding and stationery. Turks has introduced floral designs on the marbling and enriched the art of marbling. Part of its appeal is that each print is a unique monoprint.

In her marblings, Sevim does the traditional flower forms as well as some contemporary forms including Spanish styles and some designs of her own.

She had multiple live performances in St. Louis MO, Los Angeles CA, Irvine CA, Salt Lake City UT, Phoenix AZ, Atlanta GA, Urbana IL, Raleigh NC, Carbondale IL, Springfield IL, Chicago IL, Jacksonville FL, Gaynesville FL, and some other cities in the west. She attended some of the local art festivals and fairs such as Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Chicago and North Carolina Turkish Festivals, Central West End Art Fair & Taste in St. Louis, St. Charles Mosaic Art Festival, Taste of St. Louis, Highland Art Festival IL. She usually does live performances during these festivals to introduce her unusual art to the art lovers.

Besides paper marbling, she loves garden designing, drawing sketches, reading and writing poems. She also has started learning Sumi-e painting in her leisure time. She aims to introduce various traditional Turkish art forms in the United States, such as Calligraphy, Illumination (Tezhip), Earthenware (Cini), and Miniature. She is married and has two daughters.
